The Pharmacy ToolKit

Community pharmacy is well established in the provision of locally commissioned contraception and sexual health services. Pharmacies are now becoming increasingly involved in the delivery of long-acting hormonal contraceptives.1.

Organon wants to support Pharmacists in being able to counsel for and deliver methods of contraception, up to and including the subdermal implant.

This document will help you monitor the service provision at your pharmacy, and identify to what extent Organon can support you.

Training Pathway (All Tiers)

This document lays out the training required to deliver Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 contraception2

  • >Tier 1 = Ongoing monitoring and supply of repeat oral contraception prescriptions
  • Tier 2 = Initiation of oral contraceptives via a Patient Group Direction
  • Tier 3* = Ongoing monitoring and management of repeat long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), excluding intrauterine systems (IUS) and intrauterine devices (IUD)
  • Tier 4* = Initiation of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)2

*Tier 3 and 4 service specifications have not yet been written by the NHS
